If you like a little bit of heat in your life, you probably love Jalapeño Poppers. After all, who doesn’t like a little kick once and awhile? But there’s a new kid in town when it comes to spicy, super cheesy apps: Pure Flavor® Stingrays Multicolored Pencil Hot Peppers

Next time you’re in the produce aisle looking for Jalapeños, take the opportunity to join the Stingrays Club and choose the package full of green, red, yellow and orange ‘pencil’ shaped spicy peppers. Their bright and vibrant colors are a warning that these peppers are always ready to sting!

The first thing you are bound to notice when cooking with Stingrays Pencil Hot Peppers (other than their vibrant colors!) is their amazing, complex and fruity taste. For a hot pepper, they also boast a surprising sweetness. This unique flavor profile means Stingrays play nice with all sorts of other ingredients, especially cheese and bacon! They also blend together perfectly in a homemade hot sauce or smoky chili.

It takes more than a fun pop of color and unique flavor to replace Jalapeños as the top choice for cheesy Poppers, but Stingrays are up for the challenge. With a thick, meaty texture, these zesty zingers are a truly superior hot pepper for cooking. When making your crowd-pleasing apps, they will keep their form without shrinking or becoming too soft too quickly.

Top 5 Reasons to Swap Out Jalapeños and Join the Stingrays Club

1. Exciting Range of Flavors

All jalapeños taste similar, and we love them, but sometimes you just need a little more adventure! With Stingrays Pencil Hots, you have four different peppers to choose from and they all offer a full range of delicious, fruity and spicy flavor.

2. Dazzle Your Foodie Friends

Seriously. These rainbow-colored beauties pop on Instagram and will be THE hot topic at your next party. While many other peppers lose their vibrant color when cooked, Stingrays Pencil Hot Peppers retain their vivid hues.

3. Bring. The. Heat.

Have you ever been eating Jalapeño Poppers without a care in the world when, all of a sudden, you find yourself rushing to the fridge for a cold glass of water or milk? That’s because their heat can range from a mild 2,500 Scovilles to 8,000 Scovilles. Stingrays always provide the sting you’re looking for at a consistent, fiery 30,000 Scovilles!

4. Meatier Flesh Makes Them Perfect for Cooking

Left in the oven one second too long and your perfect Jalapeño Poppers can go from yummy to mushy very quickly. Stingrays Pencil Hot Peppers have a thick outer wall that holds up exceptionally in the oven or on the grill, ensuring you’ll never disappoint your guests!

5. They Complement Other Flavors in Your Dish

Hot-headed hot pepper lovers agree that their fruity spice enhances the flavors of nearly any dish, from tacos, to chili, to, of course, cheesy poppers!

A few adventurous home chefs have already made the switch to Stingrays Pencil Hot Peppers and discovered the exciting flavor and heat they add.

Mary Harp from Healthy Christian Home is a proud member of the Stingray Club and always seizes the opportunity to cook with Stingrays Pencil Hots in her home. They are the extra special ingredient in her ‘Cream Cheese Filled & Bacon-Wrapped Poppers’, a twist on her uncle Joe’s recipe that’s affectionately named Snakebites.

Mary’s recipe features a decadent blend of Cream Cheese, Parmesan and Garlic that complements and tones down the spicy bite, while crispy Bacon holds everything together in a savory, bite-sized package.

Mary Harp’s Top Tips for Easy, Tasty Snakebites

1. Wear gloves when you remove the seeds

We’ve all been there before – hovering over the sink, rinsing out our eyes or scrubbing our burning hands. And yet, sometimes we still need to be reminded.

2. Use a spoon to scoop out seeds and the rib / vein

Fun Fact: The white vein that runs lengthwise down the inside of the pepper, called the pith, contains most of the pepper’s “spicy molecule,” capsaicin. You can effectively manage how much heat you want in your Snakebites by removing more or less of the pith.

3. Bake Them on a Metal Baking Rack

By placing a metal baking rack on top of a large baking sheet, you’ll be able to remove a lot of the grease, which will drip down instead of pooling around the peppers. Not only is it healthier and crispier to use a metal rack, but it’s also easier to clean up.

4. Pre-Cook Bacon for an Easy Shortcut

You can cook your bacon any time and crumble it into the cream cheese filling. It’s not as pretty, but it’s certainly just as tasty!

5. Save Leftovers for Breakfast

Mary likes to save a few extra stuffed Stingrays to go with her fluffy scrambled eggs.

Next time you make Jalapeño Poppers — or Fajitas, Tacos, Stir-Fry, Chili, you name it — try Mary’s super spicy swap and join the Stingray Club with her delicious Snakebites recipe.

Just make sure you warn everyone at the table – they will sting!
