The new year is a perfect time to try out some fresh, healthy recipes! Our friend Megan, @mamaofwholelittles shares her recipe for Melon Smoothie Bowls with us as the perfect breakfast or healthy snack idea! Made with, and served in, Alonna Canary Melons it’s a great no-waste treat that we are certain your whole family is going to love!

I know I am not the only one that is so excited about Pure Flavor®’s newest greenhouse grown melon, the Alonna Canary Melon. The crisp, sweet flavor of this one-of-a-kind melon is even better knowing that it is grown by those who love growing them as much as we love eating them! Being one of the first to try this new melon, I have been pleasantly surprised at how much my family and I love them! With SO much more flavor, there are so many great ways to use this melon. You probably wouldn’t think of a melon on a salad or grilled alongside some chicken or steak, but I will tell you this melon is the perfect one to test out some new things in the kitchen. It is definitely the melon for every meal and since it is greenhouse grown you can get it year-round!

GET CREATIVE WITH FRESH INGREDIENTS –

The first recipe you can try is this Melon Smoothie Bowl I created. It uses the Alonna Canary Melon in the smoothie mix, as well as the bowl for serving! Smoothie bowls are one of my favorite things to serve for a filling breakfast, (even sometimes a snack!) that can offer a ton of different varieties of fruits and vegetables for all family members. I love trying different combinations, and this one is a keeper. Have you ever tried melon in a smoothie? It offers a wonderful creaminess, and the Alonna Canary Melon blends so easily with other fruits and vegetables.

In this melon smoothie bowl, I have chosen to blend frozen spinach, frozen cauliflower rice, frozen banana, frozen Alonna Canary Melon, and almond milk for a super simple base that is so delicious and super easy to customize!

There is a little bit of prep ahead of time for this recipe because the fruits and vegetables need to be frozen beforehand, but the good news is that, to my knowledge, you can also buy many of these ingredients frozen from the store if you are short on time or want to minimize clean up. So, if you need to make an easy recipe even easier, that’s my great tip for you! I personally slice fresh bananas when I buy extra and freeze them myself. Frozen cauliflower rice and spinach are great to have on hand for recipes, so I always keep a bag in my freezer.

CUSTOMIZE WITH FAVORITE FLAVORS –

This recipe really is as simple as just tossing each of these ingredients into the blender with almond milk, blending for 30 seconds or so, and then serving! Smoothies with all-natural ingredients are best when served immediately, especially in bowl form so that it’s creamy and thick enough to eat with a spoon. Once you have poured the smoothie, either into a bowl or directly into a melon half, fill it with toppings of choice. Our favorites are fresh berries, chopped nuts, unsweetened coconut, and chia seeds. Serve and enjoy!
