At home or in class, a long school day is always better when it ends with a meal like Mini Pepper Pizzas – a meal where they get to choose to incorporate the flavorful ingredients they enjoy the most.
Every kid across America has their own taste preferences and favorite fresh ingredients, so it’s important to give them some creative license in the kitchen once in a while. After school, surprise them with a fresh recipe that will allow them to express themselves by exploring the wonderful world of colorful and tasty fresh veggies.
At Pure Flavor, we’re all about finding that flavor. The one you look forward to every day, the one you want to incorporate into every meal, the one you tell your friends they “just have to try” and the one that makes your kids rush to the dinner table. That’s why we are always growing a wide variety of fresh veggies 24/7 and 365 days a year!
No matter how different everyone’s tastebuds are in your home, you can be sure to find all the flavors you need in your local produce aisle. For a fresh (and refreshing!) snack to take on walks or car rides, our full line-up of Healthy Snacking Veggies is all you need. You can enjoy crisp and bite-sized Poco Bites® Cocktail Cucumbers, our Mini Munchies® Snack Pack with four colorful snacking tomatoes, and much, much more!
When it comes to giving your kids a healthy snack that will make their day, you want to have one fresh ingredient on hand that’s great for after school snacking and fun family dinners: Aurora Bites Mini Sweet Peppers. These amazing little peppers – grown from the award-winning Tribelli seed – come in yellow, orange, red and, now, chocolate flavors.
Kids love Aurora Bites because they are super sweet – did we mention chocolate?! – and pack a huge bite-sized crunch. Parents love them because they’re loaded with many of the important vitamins and nutrients kids need to be happy and healthy.
Each pepper contains a bite-sized boost of Vitamin C to help keep their immune system in tip top shape. They’re also a good source of other essential vitamins and minerals like Vitamin A, B6, Potassium and Calcium that are important to include in your back-to-school-diet.
What parents like the most about Aurora Bites Mini Sweet Peppers is that they’re more than healthy snacks to eat on the go – they can be a core ingredient that make family meals fun and flavorful!
Just ask Mary Harp from Healthy Christian Home. Mary is a mom to two young boys and she knows how important it is to get the kids involved in making after-school dinner fun. Her new Mini Pepper Pizzas recipe is a great way to let your kids express themselves and explore with their tastebuds.
To make Mary’s recipe, you can start by setting the scene in your kitchen: clear a large area for the kids to really get creative – and, quite possibly, a bit messy! Don’t worry, it’s all part of the fun. Besides, at least you won’t have to worry about dough getting stuck to the table or your kids spraying flour all over the kitchen (and themselves)! This recipe doesn’t have any dough; that means it’s totally gluten free, low carb and nutrient dense!
Slice your mini peppers in half, empty the insides and put in a large bowl. In smaller bowls, put everyone’s favorite pizza ingredients: pepperoni, olives, mozzarella, bacon bits, onion, mushrooms and maybe even pineapple (we won’t judge, we promise).
This is the fun part. When class is over and their little tummies start rumbling, call them to the table and have some fun.
Add one spoonful of pizza sauce inside each pepper and top with mozzarella cheese. Then, let your kids choose their favorite toppings. Every single bite-sized pizza can be totally unique. At the end of the day, you’re letting them have fun making their own healthy choices and that’s something to celebrate!
Place each Mini Pepper Pizza on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, making sure to keep everyone’s unique creations separate – you don’t want this to break out into a food fight. Bake in the oven at 425º F for 10 to 15 minutes. You’ll know they’re ready when the cheese starts to bubble and turns golden brown.
Remove them from the oven and serve as soon as they’ve cooled down enough to enjoy. Don’t blink – they’ll be gone before you know it!
